Dear Anon,
What an amazing picture! I have been staring at it for a long time, and here is what I don't understand: why is it tagged "Gagarin"? I think an important clue is the comment: "jejeje, 12.aprill, kosmosepäev!". I am guessing "kosmosepäev" is Cosmonauts' Day (after Gagarin)... but: what is the relation to to the shadow-monster on Tolstoy's Tartu dacha, or whatever that is? This is too much for your decrepit PFO correspondent....

Dear dissidentguy15,

How marvelous to hear from you! I'm afraid you are very right about my PFO worldview and inability to grasp the complexities of the IAC. On the other hand I was happy to get your message because it reminded me to direct my esteemed readers to another link I received from Mr. Frank apropos of the 33-Friends debacle: the debate surrounding the second nomination of "Real life" for deletion on Wikipedia. As you probably know, dissidentguy15, it's a wonderful debate. My favorite parts are (a) the suggestion, "redirect Real life to Real Life (disambiguation)"; and (b)the "Strong Keep" advocated by Mr. IP on the grounds that "This is not a good article, but the subject is notable."

Anyway, I'd like to apologize here for any distress my post might have caused either to you, or to Messrs Kessler, Frank, Tolstoy, et al., for whom all of whom I entertain feelings of the deepest respect. (I am certainly not just saying this because of the email warning I received yesterday: "Don't be too mean to Jon and the art world or else his gallerist will come after you!")

dissidentguy15: this is a long shot but I am wondering, are you by any chance acquainted with a certain Bernardo Winson, Ph.D.?

It's a shame that the project was mothballed before you could find a way to incorporate this photo:

(Not that I know how; I just feel it should be shared.)

Do not be confused by Ms. Batuman's ruse. The blogger was in fact the principal of the "You Have 33 Friends" imbroglio, whatever she might have her readership believe. Her retrograde musings on the nature of the Internet and the employment of pre-fiberoptics (PFO) parables reveal a thoroughly decrepit worldview at work, one not likely to leave her capable of grasping the complexities of the Internet Art Community I helped found (with her encouragement). Clearly, we can only understand her effort to instigate this project as an attempt to integrate herself into the IAC (it having left her in its binary wake), hoping nobody would notice her distinctly PFO mental operations; having failed, she lays the blame on Mr. Kessler, Mr. Frank, Mr. Tolstoy and whichever other avatars happen to have disturbed her network slumber.
