As it happens, I do know who Gessen’s agent is, and even talked to him/ her a total of four times myself, to discuss possible representation—except here is the thing: she never gave me her phone number or email address. Rather, on all four occasions, she established communication with me only through a more junior member of the agency—which junior member subsequently moved to Dubai to work on a start-up newspaper.
OK, you got me, it’s a she… but that is all I will say on the subject since, although I do believe whenever possible in giving the people what they want, I’m pretty sure it would be gauche for me to publicly broadcast the identity of Keith Gessen’s literary agent on my blog. In person, of course, it would be different, especially if you bought me a few drinks first.
