"Many people ask why a writer commits suicide. But I think that people who ask don’t know the vanity and the nothingness of writing." Kobo Abe

Well done, Elif!! Please come to Moscow, where you can see Platonov's plaque (right next to Mandelstam's) on the building where he lived on Tverskoi Bulvar', and also see his name in lights: "Korova" and "Rasskaz o Schastlivoi Moskve" are two of the best plays in town.
Please have your webmaster keep track of my hits.

S uvazheniem,

Dear Elif,

Many thanks for your sensitive and interesting review of SOUL AND OTHER STORIES, of which I am a co-translator. For me, there are two great Russian writers, two writers whom I could happily go on translating for the rest of my life: Aleksandr Pushkin and Andrey Platonov! I first began translating Platonov over 30 years ago, and every year my admiration for him grows.

Very best wishes,

Robert Chandlert

Well, here is a hint: it isn't about any Russians. This could be my "crossover" moment.
